Present Moment Awareness...

The Positive Intelligence Mental Fitness Boot Camp program I teach incorporates many exercises inspired by spiritual traditions. These practices focus on building new neural pathways in the brain, often through mindfulness techniques. By cultivating presence in the moment, we effectively strengthen our "brain muscles." This process fosters self-command, heightened awareness, self-discipline, and emotional intelligence, unlocking countless benefits simply by learning to be deeply aware of ourselves in the here and now.


One powerful example is an exercise from Pema Chödrön's book Welcoming the Unwelcome. Known as The Pause Practice, it encourages us to “Slow down and abruptly stop. Look out and touch in with the present moment. Doing so breaks up the stream of concepts and mental chatter that overlay your experience. It enables you to touch in with the timelessness of the present moment…nowness” (p. 101).
